Wasp Motorcycles began its story in the early 1960's. During the day, Rob (Charles)Rhind-tutt was serving his apprenticeship making aircraft instruments at Boscombe Down in Wiltshire. In his sparetime, Rob raced a sidecar outfit in the Southern Centre grasstrack club with his passenger Philip Coles. At that time the bikes raced were mainly modified road machines. Around 1962, Rob made his own frame and sidecar, specifically designed for grasstrack racing. And so it began.

When Honda of Salisbury closed its doors and moved south in 2006, Shaun Learnihan couldn't bear to think of his customers being left high and dry. Hayball's have been in the 2 wheel business since 1925, starting off trading from Salisbury's historic market place. In the 1960s Hayballs extended its business to include powered two wheelers sellingLambretta scooters. Growing in size the cycle side initially moved out into a new shop just round the corner leaving the Motorcycles in Winchester Street. However, this side of the business continued to quickly expand with the addition of Yamaha and had soon outgrown the shop.

Coming from an agricultural background and being lucky enough to grow up on a farm, bikes have always been part of mine and my families life. I obviously did not damage or scar her as she is now too akeen motorcyclist, and has taken part in drag racing and enjoys the TT races.
